John Tucknott's Memories

Looking through those photos from the ‘60s and ‘70s reminded me of how generous the Bank was with regard to sporting and social events at that time.

I played football on many occasions and mixed hockey  a few times (more bruising than football) and I recall sometimes there were a few supporters including local directors. One game was played at the Goldstone ground when presumably the Club was banking with Barclays.  Properly printed programmes were produced, I think for the two Northcott Cup finals, and which I kept but unfortunately cannot now find.

The other thing that we as a family very much enjoyed was the occasional use of the Banks Motor  Cruising Club boats – Spread Eagle I, II, and III on the Thames, Peak Forest Canal and Norfolk Broads respectively. Not in Banks time, but at very generous rates. Each year there was a draw to decide weekly hire and we were fortunate to be allocated one on five occasions, visiting all three areas.

There was of course a lot of inter-branch events after office hours, and which I hope still occurs, but having now been retired for some 26 years I guess that things are rather different now.
